I Ging Symphony
RM8128 1997

Dann kommen Donner, Wind, Feuer, Wasser, See, Berg.

A blessing and a sacred journey
ByK. N. Nelsonon August 4, 2001
Like another reviewer I, too, walked into a store and heard this CD playing and it was instant recognition that I had to have this album. I was stunned by its message to my senses. Apparently whatever I needed to know or hear occured within me at that moment and it was both an opening and a beginning. That is the purpose of this incredible music. As the booklet suggests, it takes you where you need to be. My experience was a sense of entering upon a sacred journey into my soul and spirit for attunement and a renewed sense of freedom and joy.
Each time I listen to this music I find that the "element" changes in concert with the focus required for the inner work even when I am consciously unaware of the underlying motive. Beyond the intellectual and emotional aspects stimulated by this superlative album, the music is exquisite. The various exotic instruments used to "vocalize" or "evoke" a response within the listener moves this spiritual symphony to a whole different realm of artistic creativity. To say that it is beautiful cannot even come close to describing the profundity of its glory. This recording is a true blessing on every level.
One of Steiner's best CD's
very relaxing and soothing music.
Amazingly lovely CD. We have owned it for years and lost it when we traded in our car - left it in the CD player! Nooooo! But now we have it again, and can groove with this stimulating-yet-relaxing collection of beautiful music. Sigh.
Love working out with my Qi Gong and Tai Chi to this music.
Beautiful, wonderful meditation music. I would recommend to any one who is looking for something a bit different in the meditation field.
if you want to sit back, relax, drink some wine, and think about life, then this is the CD for you.
This is music based on the I-Ching tri-grams, giving one the basic meaning of each as it is described. Starting with "Heaven" and ending with "Mountains" the sound is meant for meditation, but the music is beautiful and in some cases, like in the case of "Fire" can be almost hypnotic with its soft drum beat as one can imagine a flame dancing in front of you.
"Thunder" starts off with the sound of thunder as one can imagine a coming storm that shakes the earth like a hurricane or a tornado and the music is wild and chaotic, but through it, it is not atonal as one can imagine ocean waves crashing to shore or the sight of a funnel sweeping majestically across the land before it dissipates. "Water" is soft, and the sounds can invoke being in a boat, resting as the current slowly drifts downstream while "Mountains" can give one the impression that the land is rushing up to the sky and then while up there, one can see the curve of the earth beyond. Those are only the few impressions I can give. It may be that some may have something completely different. One can only listen to find out.
We bought this as background music for learning tai chi. We're very pleased, although the music becomes a little more energetic as it goes on. Maybe we're supposed to progress like that, too. Not there yet, but still, we're happy with the music and the quality of the CD.
This is a very good addition to my collection I have already listened to this music many times and will continue to do so.
I can't blame the samples for being misleading. There are no samples to listen to! That should have stopped me right there. I was looking for east-west fusion music I could play for massage sessions, real music not schmaltz. I believed the reviews that said this music was soothing yet uplifting, great for meditation or yoga. I should have paid more attention to the one (Hamilton) who said it was a little too upbeat for meditation. The opening track sounds like the Army of the People's Republic of China is about to march. The rest? Uptempo to the point of being bouncy. Not my idea of calm. Who is doing yoga to this?! You'd have to speed up your Tai-Chi to where it looked like Tae-Kwan-Do!
I first listened to this I Ching Symphony on my iPod while painting what was to become my twin girls bedroom, and it had an amazing soothing effect on me. The progression from beginning to end is not obvious at first, but as you listen, you realize that it all fits together. I wanted more when it ended!
Fabulous CD. The music is rather upbeat and uplifting IMHO, so it might not be what you want if you are looking for something to listen to while meditating or chilling-out.
This music engages your mind, your emotions, your spirit. It lifts, expands, and calms at the same time. Like all great music, you realize when it's over that your internal perspective is more ordered and at peace. The fusion of easten and western sounds is perfect when driving long distances as a form of almost-meditation.
This is a very creative music album. Western & far Oriental music has been fused to create a very soothing music album. Some of the best tracks in this album are:
1. Ch'ien (Heaven): A perfect introductory track that sets the tone for the entire album. Mostly western classical with oriental interludes.
2. K'un (Earth): This is a complexly arranged track that starts off with a western classical theme and progressively merges into an energetic oriental theme. It is a powerful track that might prompt you to swing your body and mind in resonance.
6. K'an (Water): In my opinion this is the best track on the album. It has beautiful rhythmic cadence (justifying the name of the track). This tracks plays a string instrument (played like a violin) that isn't exactly from the orient, but from the middle east and is also popular in the deserts of India. The stringed instrument overlays the rhythmic beat to create a soothing sonicscape that will inspire a feeling of happiness.
It is a great CD for meditation, yoga or just relaxing! I always seem to be choosing it over other similiar CDs I own when I want to relax or do yoga!
When I first heard this, I knew that I had to have it. I put this on a work to transcend, escape. It has a magical flow that seperates you from wherever you are and allows focus. A wonderful creation. I was excited to see that Mr. Steiner had another CD out. I'm listening to it as I write, no disappointment here.
I bought this years ago! But I still listen to it quite a lot. It's all the forces of nature mixed with human emotions. Each song is rather long, and different, but beautiful all together.
Listening to it it makes me feel as if i'm in a sunny forest, hiding from a storm, running through a meadow, or flying...
I ask my dentist to put this on his CD player when I'm having some work done. Very relaxing. My cousin uses it to calm her grandkids. About 5 minutes, and they're snoozing. I also listen to it when I'm doing something unpleasant. It works every time.
Yes, I've bought many times for friends, doctors and teachers who love meditation and music. Each note has a way of hitting the nervous system and shutting down all negativity. It's a natural high. It's 45 minutes of escape from reality. No words are needed. You have to experience it. You have to believe there's positive energy coming from the Symphony & with to each note there is a purpose. Not really typical Chinese...as I thought when I bought it.
The only thing I could think of to compare this music to is ... the all. The music is titled to the eight Trigrams of Heaven, Earth, Thunder, Water, Mountain, Wind, Fire, and Lake. You not only feel the music, you experience the Oracle.
Deffinately a "Must Have" for any complete beautiful music collection.
An excellent portrait of music. You will not be sorry
I am a freelance illustrator that uses background music to inspire me. This CD is wonderful along with the instruction book would be a great accompanyment to the book The Artist's Way
I own more new age music than I care to cound, and this CD was a true find. The eight pieces correlate to the eight trigrams of the I Ching, but no prior knowledge of the I Ching is necessary. Each piece expresses a concept (explained on the liner notes) of mountain, air, wind, etc. (Rather like Plato's ideals)...It is a beautiful piece of music on one I would whole-heartedly recommend.
